How to gain strength

There is a difference between building muscle and strength, both are connected but you can focus on one more than the other.

 

Whisper to the nervous system

If body building is shouting at the muscles, strength training is whispering. you will still lift heavy but we are chasing performance now.

 

How it works

You can get stronger without building muscle, this is due to optimisation of the central nervous system(CNS). Which is responsible for sending the electrical signal to the muscles. If this connection is improved the muscle is stronger.

 

strength helps everything

Strength gains will improve your ability to perform all your daily tasks and endurance, as the stronger the body is the less it weighs to it's self, meaning all movement require less effort, saving energy.

 My strength training programs focus on

 

tracking- Every rep and weight lifted will be recorded, this will help us apply progressive overload to keep the gains coming.

   

 tailored- I tailor each workout to the individual. I find your preferred way to workout, tailoring the exercises, rep ranges, sets, rest periods and frequency that best suits you to optimise results.

 goals- we will set strength goals to hit using the SMART principle. Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time frame.

Strength training will benefit anyone of any fitness level or age. no matter what, you can improve.​

I joined up with Kieran to help me build and maintain my strength. As I know how important it is as you age and I want to continue doing all the things I enjoy.

For example I ride motorcycles which are heavy. I had a friend whose bike fell over while stationary and it pulled her down with it and she injured herself, I don't want that to happen to me.

So we set some strength goals, such as deadlifting my bodyweight, pulling the entire weight stack on the Lat pulldown and bench pressing 40kg.

Kieran designed and took me through a weight training program that helped me achieve all of my goals.
